“Lotus feet”

The bandaged foot (缠足 – chánzú) was a popular practice in some parts of China until the twentieth century. Activists against bounded feet educated practitioners by telling them the perception of the outside world of this trend as a barbarity, and teaching them the advantages of normal feet. With all this, the practice was nearly eradicated, but some families continued this tradition until it was banned by the Communist government in 1949. Continue reading

TERRA- COTTA WARRIORS

The terra-cotta warriors and the horses are one of the most important archeological discoveries of the last century. They were discovered in 1974 by some people digging in Xi’an. Therse soldiers are made of clay and seem to be ready for a battle. Thousands of warriors were found in the tomb of the emperor Zhen.

GENERAL INFORMATION OF THE CHINESE NEW YEAR

This festivity is also known as the Spring Festival, and it is the main Chinese event of the year. This celebration lasts for fifteen days at all, but the public holiday lasts for three days. During these days, the family gathers together and eat special New Year´s meals. Despite the fact that the public holiday lasts three days, celebrations keep going on during the entire holiday period.

Finally, this festivity ends with the lantern festival. This is a night of displays and painted lanterns. The most important activity during this lantern festival is the Dragon Dance. These dragons are usually made of paper, silk and bamboo; people hold them overhead and dance during their way along the parade routes.

So as to the chinese ney year in 2014, it will be the year of the Horse. It will be year 4712 on the Chinese Calendar . This year is very well known as he year of good luck; it is algo the sign of travelling, but mainly brings success. Chinese people have high expectations for horses and do not use them for farm work. It is said that horses can hel humans to win the battle. so, in conclussion, people who is born in the year of the horse is better known for taking care about their dressing, outlook and speech.

Since the beginning of time, nomadic people have roamed the earth. Looking for food, feeding their cattle. Looking for an existence, freedom. Living in the wild, mountains, deserts, on tundra and ice. With only a thin layer of tent between them and nature. Earth in the 21st century is a crowded place, roads and cities are everywhere. Yet somehow, these people hold on to traditions that go back to the very beginning of human civilization (JEROEN TORKIENS…)

Nomads have been roaming the earth for thousand of years, living off the land with their livestock or hunting and gathering food whenever they had the opportunity to.
