“Lotus feet”

The bandaged foot (缠足 – chánzú) was a popular practice in some parts of China until the twentieth century. Activists against bounded feet educated practitioners by telling them the perception of the outside world of this trend as a barbarity, and teaching them the advantages of normal feet. With all this, the practice was nearly eradicated, but some families continued this tradition until it was banned by the Communist government in 1949. Continue reading

Mid-Autumn Festival is the festival more adapted to our period of the year. The day is also known as the Moon Festival, as at that time of the year the moon is at its roundest and brightest.mid_autumn_fest_02

131847007_11nOn the festival day, family members gather to offer sacrifice to the moon, appreciate the bright full moon, eat moon cakes, and express strong yearnings toward family members and friends who live afar. In addition, there are some other customs like playing lanterns, and dragon and lion dances in some regions.
